For tips on physical activity and healthy eating, visit MyEatSmartMoveMoreNC.com. For more information about Be Active Day, call (828) 694-6065.

Child Passenger Safety
The Department of Public Health currently offers child passenger safety classes on Wednesdays from 12:00 -1:00 pm. Our child passenger safety technician provides education for parents on car seat usage and proper installation. A free car seat is given to parents in need of assistance who attend the class. To register, contact Kaye Brownlee, BSSW, LCCE, Health Educator, at (828) 694-6066.We are also a resource for assisting parents in locating free or reduced price infant and booster seats.
For additional information on child passenger safety, visit The Car Seat Lady.
Never leave your child alone in a car. Did you know that a child’s body heats up 3 to 5 times faster than an adult’s? It only takes a few short minutes before a child can become dangerously overheated. For more information visit the Safe Kids USA Parent Center. Another resource for safety information is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Department of Public Health offers the Small Wonders Childbirth Class Series. This Lamaze-based educational series provides instruction and support for a natural, healthy, and confident birth. Topics include: a woman’s natural ability to give birth; coping strategies for the stages of labor; common interventions during labor and birth; breastfeeding and bonding; a tour of the hospital’s labor and delivery rooms; and more. The five-week series is held on Thursdays from 5:30–7:30 pm. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish. For registration and fee information, contact Kaye Brownlee, BSSW, LCCE, at 694-6066. |
