Solid Waste Division


Transfer Station: 8:00 - 4:30 / Monday - Saturday (Hand unloaders must be done by 4:00pm; Hydraulic dump vehicles can unload from 8am until 4:30pm)

Convenience Center: 8:00 - 4:30 / Monday - Saturday

Office: 8:00 - 5:00 / Monday - Friday

Essential Departmental Functions: The Solid Waste Division provides the County with a Transfer Station for waste disposal, tire disposal, construction debris, and wood waste. The Convenience Center provides recycling of household materials (paper, plastic, aluminum, glass), certain electronics, mercury products, and white goods (used appliances and metals). The Department is responsible for waste reduction, recycling, and disposing of solid waste in order to protect the public's health, safety and welfare.

The Solid Waste Division also coordinates a recycling bin loan program for special events through Environmental Programs. Please click here for information or to download a request form. Call (828) 694-6524 for more information.

August 3, 2015: The Henderson County Sheriff's Office is hosting 2 medicine drop-off dates this month: August 5th and 7th from 9am until 11am at Ingles Supermarket locations. Click here to view the flyer. Henderson County residents are encouraged to regularly bring unwanted or unusable medicines (excluding chemotherapy drugs and sharps) to the Sheriff's Office at 100 North Grove Street. July 22, 2015: Liquid paint and paint related materials can be recycling on the 3rd Tuesday monthly at the Transfer Station from 8am until 2pm. All paint is subject to a $2/ gallon container recycling fee; please do not combine oil-based paints. A 30-gallon per individual per event limit is set for all events. Print an electronic form and inventory your items at home. Residents are asked to self-unload their vehicles. All event details can be found here. Residents only, no business or commercial quantities will be accepted.

June 2, 2015: The FY 16 Budget was approved by the Board of Commissioners on June 2, 2015. Click here to view the adopted Budget Ordinance. Click here to view the FY 16 Solid Waste Fee Schedule, effective July 1, 2015, as several fee items have changed.

NOTICE: Beginning July 1, 2015, TVs and monitors will NO LONGER be accepted at the Convenience Center. These items must be taken across the scales at the Transfer Station and incur a $10 per item fee. All other electronics can still be taken to the Convenience Center for no charge.
