Essential Departmental Functions:The Solid Waste Division provides the County with a transfer station for waste disposal and tire disposal, and a drop-off site for recyclable materials, electronics, white goods (used appliances and metals), and wood waste. The Department is responsible for waste reduction, recycling and disposing of solid waste in order to protect the public's health, safety and welfare.

The Solid Waste Division also coordinates a recycling bin loan program for special events through Environmental Programs. Please click here for information or to download a request form. Call (828) 694-6524 for more information.

9/18/2014:  Henderson County Solid Waste is now accepting clean loads of asphalt shingles from residential homes at the Transfer Station, Monday through Saturday from 8:00am until 4:00pm. Clean loads from residences are eligible to utilize a reduced scale fee of $35.00. All loads must be accompanied by a Shingle Supplier Certification Form. 12/13/2012:  Henderson County is now accepting all plastic containers and gable top containers for recycling. Please see the Convenience Center Operations page for details.

10/12/2012:  Beginning July 1, 2013 Henderson County will change the way that we collect leaves from commercial operations.  Changes can be found here.

7/1/2011: North Carolina has banned electronics from disposal. Please recycle your residential electronics for free at the Convenience Center.

6/2/2011: Solid Waste Fee will increase $57/ton as of July 1, 2011 for municipal solid waste and demolition debris.
